Mentor Program Requirements

Expectation of Mentees

Mentees are expected to:

  • Initiate the first contact with the mentor
  • Take responsibility for scheduling meetings
  • Be on time for all meetings
  • Contact mentor in a timely fashion if the mentee cannot make a scheduled meeting
  • Treat the mentor with respect
  • Initiate help with the two written assignments

Set up Initial Meeting with Mentor

Within 24 hours of the Initial Interview, the mentee must email the mentor to set up the first meeting.

Format of email:

  • Address email by mentor’s title, Dr., V.P., Mr., Ms., etc.
  • Let mentor know you will be his or her mentee
  • Your schedule
  • Acknowledge that you understand they are busy and will adjust your schedule as you can

Stay in Contact with Mentor Program Coordinator

Every two weeks, mentees will be asked by email to provide a brief progress report. Coordinator may send other emails in order to check on progress on assignments or to respond to information from mentor.

  • Respond to all emails within 24 hours of receiving an email from the coordinator.
  • Email coordinator if you are having any problems meeting with your mentor or with completing assignments or about any other issues that arise.

Complete all Assignments by the Agreed upon Due Date

  • Email or bring a hard copy of all assignments to Program Coordinator by due date.
  • Email Program Coordinator and ask for an extension if you will not be able to complete an assignment on time.

If you fail to meet the requirements of the program (for example, you repeatedly fail to show up for meetings with your mentor) your records will be flagged. Other consequences may be imposed.
