Requesting a Program

If you would like a presentation or program for your classroom, student organization, residence hall or any other UGA organization, there are several ways you can contact a Health Promotion staff member. You can call 706-542-8690 and ask to speak to the specific health educator, or you can email them. Email addresses can be found on the UHC webpage under meet the staff. When you request a program, please give us at least two weeks notice. The Health Educators will be asking the following questions when you call to schedule a program:

  • Have you talked to the students you are planning the program for to engage them in the topic? What issues or topics are they most interested in learning?
  • When are the students available? If it is in the evening, what nights do students have other commitments? How many students have committed to attending the presentation?
  • Are there other individuals or organizations that you can collaborate with when planning this presentation?
  • What space is available for the presentation? Is it a high traffic area with many distractions? If so, are there another space available with less distractions?

Outreach to the Community

Classroom presentations on a wide variety of health topics, including sexual health, HIV, alcohol and other drugs, nutrition, body image, eating disorders, tobacco cessation, sexual assault and more. If you are an instructor at the university and have a conference to go to or have a conflict with one of your scheduled classes, let us come to your class.

Educational materials on health issues are available through the Health Promotion Department. Written information is an essential tool to support people in taking control of their health and being informed consumers.

Patient Education

Health educators work in partnership with the clinician staff to help students learn about self-care and healthy lifestyles. By making an appointment with one of the health educators, you can talk to them about STIs, anonymous HIV counseling and testing, contraception, alcohol and other drugs, acquaintance rape issues, eating disorders, body image, nutrition, cholesterol and vegetarian eating.

Campus-wide Health Promotion Activities

Campus-wide special events are planned through out the year on a variety of relevant health issues. Look for announcements about these exciting programs.

706-542-SAFE (7233) is a confidential referral telephone line for questions and concerns about relationship and sexual violence, and is sponsored by the Health Promotion Department.

National College Health Assessment (NCHA)

The National College Health Assessment (NCHA) is a survey, sponsored by the American College Health Association, which asks college students about their health and health risk behaviors. For more information and data about UGA students' health behaviors for 2001 and 2003, view the NCHA summary.
