Do I Contribute to Another's Eating Disorder?

The culture of disordered eating is pervasive in our society
The following are ways in which we might unintentionally encourage eating disorders:

Where to Get Help at UGA

The University Health Center's Counseling and Psychiatric Services (706-542-2273) offers services to students who feel they may have an eating disorder or experience problems with eating or body image. Students may call to make an appointment for an initial consultation with a CAPS clinician. If comfortable, the student may tell the CAPS secretary the reason for their visit in order to be directed to the most appropriate counselor. After the initial evaluation they may be referred for a thorough psychological, physical and nutritional evaluation. This evaluation helps determine the goals for treatment and the most appropriate resources.

Short-term individual therapy, group therapy, nutrition counseling, physical health intervention and pshychiatric monitoring are available. For those who need longer term or more intensive treatment than is available on campus, referrals are made to area psychologists, psychiatrists and hospital programs.
