Self-Esteem and Perfectionism

Self-Esteem Issues

Healthy self-esteem has to do with knowing and understanding positive aspects of the self. Positive attributes can sometimes not be apparent if experiences or interactions with significant others while growing up were negative or critical. However, the good news is that self-esteem is not etched in stone and can be improved. Talking to a counselor is a good way to learn more about your self-esteem issues and begin to improve self-esteem.

Perfectionism

Perfectionism is one of many personality or character traits that are fine in moderation but in excess can lead to difficulty. It is good to be reliable, organized and disciplined. However, if you over-discipline yourself and constantly demand too much of yourself, day-to-day life can become difficult.

Treatment

At CAPS, we can assist you with these kinds of difficulties by helping you learn new and healthier ways of looking at yourself, your friends, your family and life in general. It is helpful to learn how to develop realistic goals, reasonable standards of success and failure and self-reinforcement.
