Mission and Goals

Mission Statement

As a unit of the University Health Center and Division of Student Affairs, Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) supports the mission of the University in our commitment to the academic, personal, social and psychological growth of students at the University of Georgia. CAPS strives to be highly accessible while promoting a healthy learning community for students and the University community.

In our efforts to accomplish this mission, CAPS is student-centered and dedicated to providing the best available counseling, psychiatric, and psychological testing services. The scope of services that CAPS provides includes individual, group, and couple counseling, as well as assessment, crisis intervention, walk-in services, medication evaluation and monitoring and referral to on and off-campus resources when appropriate. The clinical setting and staff provide a high quality training environment and supervision for advanced trainees. CAPS is also dedicated to providing the University community with high quality services and expertise in the areas of consultation and outreach which includes program development.

CAPS offers these services with respect for others, appreciation of diversity, and compassion for the people we serve, ever mindful of and responsive to the changing needs of the University community.
