Rohypnol
flunitrazepam
Form
Rohypnol is tasteless and odorless. It comes in a small, white, round tablet
that is slightly smaller than an aspirin.
How it is Used
Rohypnol dissolves quickly in carbonated beverages. It is usually taken
orally, but can be ground up and snorted.
When and Why it is Used
Rohypnol is often used as a date rape drug, to come down off of a sleepless
binge and to increase the effects of other drugs. It is widely known as
the "date rape" drug because of it's disinhibiting effects and
the fact that it is easily slipped in an unsuspecting person's drink. When
mixed with alcohol, Rohypnol increases the impairment effects and this mixture
can cause death.
Other Facts
Rohypnol has a synergistic effect when mixed with alcohol which increases
the impairment.
Effects begin 20-30 minutes after ingestion and can last up to 8 hours.
Psychomotor impairment can last up to 12 hours after ingestion.
Because Rohypnol is usually sold in a sealed bubble pack, it is often thought
to be safe.
Rohypnol did not appear in the US until the early 1990's.
Rohypnol is 10 times more potent than other benzodiazepines like Valium.
Rohypnol is not approved for prescription in the United States and in some
states has been listed as a Schedule I drug. It is prescribed in some other
countries for short-term treatment of sleep disorders.
