Who Uses Ecstasy and Why?

Ecstasy is a club drug that is used for its psychedelic and stimulant effects. The drug is often taken at nightclubs and raves. It reduces inhibitions, produces feelings of empathy, eliminates anxiety, and causes extreme relaxation.

Effects can last from 3 to 6 hours

Overdoses are characterized by rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, faintness, muscle cramping, panic attacks and loss of consciousness or seizures.

Ecstasy can cause severe dehydration and heat strokes, which can be fatal. Ecstasy deaths reported body temperatures of 107°-109° Fahrenheit. This contributes to the heart and kidney failure.

When taken with alcohol, Ecstasy can permanently destroy both dopamine and serotonin producing cells in the brain and cause memory impairment.

Ecstasy is a Schedule I Drug under the Controlled Substances Act.
